You don't have to be a skilled mountaineer to enjoy great hikes, beautiful views and wonderful walks in nature are available in every state! Getting out into the world is a great way to stay healthy.
This week, for Freedom Friday, we're taking a look at different hikes in Alabama. No matter your skill level, we have got you covered. We'll be working our way around the U.S. so you can plan where you're going next!
If you feel like a short hike is the best for you, the Aldridge Gardens Trail, in Hoover, Alabama, is a half-mile loop featuring a lake. This trail is located within the Aldridge Gardens, a thirty-acre garden. The garden has other trails but this is a nice gentle walk. Get directions here.
The Bald Rock Boardwalk is just over half a mile. The moderately trafficked trail located near Heflin, Alabama, has beautiful wildflowers and is great for all skill levels. It is an out and back trail, not a loop, and is handicap accessible with benches and gorgeous views! Get directions here.
The Waterfall Loop in DeSoto State Park, in Fort Payne, Alabama, is a moderately hard hike. Just under three miles, the hike takes you past three waterfalls. Because the falls are fed by Laurel Creek, it's best to go during a wet time of year. During a drought, the falls can be missed! Because parts of the trail are rocky and can be slippery, this is a good trail for people are sure-footed. Get directions here.
Finally, if you are looking for a strenuous, seven-mile hike, the Walls of Jericho Trail in Hytop, Alabama, might be for you. While accessible to dogs and horses, this out and back trail has waterfalls, caves and possibly snakes. People love it for its views but it is a challenge with a one-thousand-three-hundred-and-forty-eight-foot elevation difference between its lowest and highest points. Maybe it's something to work up to or maybe it's just your skill level! Get directions here.
So, now is the time to plan your visit to Alabama and your escape into nature. Next week, we'll be looking at Alaska! If you think we missed a great walk, let us know: socialmedia@neulivenhealth.com.
