Easy Homemade Gift Ideas

If you are anything like us, staying inside all the time makes you stir-crazy. COVID-19 safety restrictions are keeping us away from our loved ones and mostly inside our homes. The anxiety for our health and the health of others bleeds into boredom. Filling hours at home can be difficult.

We were looking around for new crockpot recipes when we saw a post about other uses for slow cookers. And it mentioned making your own candles. Using the slow cooker to keep jars of different colored wax melted, you can dip wicks into the jars and make multicolored candles. This is an excellent use for any old crayons you have floating around in drawers. That got us thinking, and we realized that this is a good time to make homemade presents.

Making crafts is a soothing way to fill time and not focus on the stress we’re all feeling in these strange times. They also give you a sense of accomplishment: this isn’t dull downtime if you’re making something. You can get a huge jump on the holidays, make birthday presents or make “thinking of you” gifts to give to friends and family when the COVID-19 pandemic is over. It’s a nice way to think about the people in your life when you can’t be with them.

If you Google DIY gift ideas, there are thousands of options. You might not have all the supplies you need, but craft stores and Amazon are still shipping. Look around online for the best deals. Here are four projects that we both want to make and would love to receive!

These votive holders are so much fun because you can personalize them. Make it someone’s favorite color or paint it in colors for the season (pastels for the spring and oranges and red for the fall). If you have a steady hand, you can try to put someone’s initials on it and, even if you mess up, you can just cover it with paint! You can make them polka-dotted or try for an ombré effect! If you have a couple of old throws, this is a great way to bring life back to them. Or, you can get material off the internet and make a lovely present for someone. Consider getting a fleece blanket with a team logo on it for someone who loves sports and is missing the season. Get the instructions here!
