Five Super Bowl Snacks that Won’t Upset Your Blood Sugar

Whether you’re a fan of football, commercials, spending time with friends or shouting at your TV, you’re probably excited about Sunday! The Super Bowl is here, taking place in Atlanta, GA. The Patriots are taking on the Rams, and many of us with blood sugar concerns are taking on the snack table.

Gatherings can feel like days to splurge, but our blood sugar doesn’t agree. Sadly, our bodies don’t have a calendar with parties scheduled into it. The good news is that you can plan for what special treats you can work into your day. The even better news is that we are sharing delicious and healthy recipes for you to enjoy at your Super Bowl party that are sure to be a touchdown.

Broccomole

We love guacamole. It’s filled with healthy fat, vitamins and protein. Avocado is a fantastic vegetable. But sometimes you want to try something new, and sometimes you want to cut a few of the calories so that you can leave space for something else. And, it’s always fun to taste test a recipe with a group! This recipe for broccomole, made with broccoli, jalapeno and cream cheese, is far lighter. A fourth of a cup contains 43 calories and under three grams of carbs. Get the recipe here.

Faux-tato Skins

Potato skins are a staple of the big game. Thousands of people across the nation will be enjoying them in homes and bars. These carb-heavy snacks are undeniably delicious. And now, thankfully, a vegetable in disguise has put them back on the menu for folks watching their carbs. These bites use cauliflower as an excellent stand-in for potatoes. The faux-tatoes have 115 calories and two grams of carbs per serving. Get the recipe here.

Pickle Chips

The southern delicacy of pickle chips are an excellent addition to any party. However, their battered and fried surface outweighs the almost calorie-free pickled cucumber inside. By baking the chips, it’s possible to enjoy the snack without a lot of the calories and carbs associated with the traditional recipe. This version has only 55 calories and 10 grams of carbs per serving. The same size serving of fried pickles is usually around 150 calories with almost 19 grams of carbs. Get the recipe here.

Mini Tacos

The best thing about parties are the mini versions of food we all love. Having something you can easily hold in one hand while rooting for your team is excellent. But being small doesn’t mean a bite-sized taco can’t pack a delicious punch. These mini tacos don’t cut calories and carbs by merely being smaller, it’s that they replace the taco shell with peppers, bringing a new texture to the snack! They have only 67 calories and 2 grams of carbs per serving. Get the recipe here.

Chicken Wings

More than 1.3 billion chicken wings are eaten over Super Bowl weekend. They are the crown jewel of the party. But the deep-fried wings have a lot of calories jammed into just a few bites, and the batter found on some can upset blood sugar levels. That’s where these baked chicken wings can really shine. Delicious and lighter, they are more than worthy of being the star of a buffet table. A serving of seven wings has 380 calories and nine grams of carbs. Get the recipe here.

We hope you like these recipes and that, no matter which team you support, you enjoy Sunday!
