Halloween Sweets in Time for National Dessert Day

Following a low-carb diet doesn’t mean you have to avoid all sweet things. There are many ways to enjoy sweet treats without sugar. That has become even easier with how many low-carb flours there are in grocery stores nowadays! October 14th is National Dessert Day. A day to celebrate the sweeter things in life! So we wanted to share some sweet treats to enjoy that won’t spike your blood sugar!

This Halloween is going to be different than most. Many areas aren’t allowing large Halloween events. Even if they are, many of us won’t feel comfortable participating. But just because we might not be hosting or attending parties or going to local festivals doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate at home or drop off treats for close friends. Today, we are sharing so delicious, sweet Halloween treat recipes you can make this month to celebrate! These are all treat without a trick!

Pumpkin Cookies

These pumpkin cookies are decorated with the color of the season — orange and have a little orange extract for an extra punch of flavor. They work just as well for Thanksgiving, but we love them so much we start making them now! They are soft and chewy instead of having a crunch. Sometimes you want a crunch, but at others, chewy is the way to go! The cookie has all the flavors of a pumpkin pie. The baking notes suggest trying it with chocolate chips. We recommend leaving them out on your first batch and increasing the pumpkin spice just a little — an eighth or a quarter of a teaspoon. We think it needs a little more flavor, but we don’t think chocolate is the way to go. A serving has 147 calories, four grams of carbs and one gram of fiber. Get the recipe.

Chocolate Glazed Doughnuts

These doughnuts are pretty, tasty and the decorating is so easy! You do not have to be a master cake decorator to make the spiderwebs. You don’t even have to be an amateur cake decorator! You need a toothpick and a freezer bag with a corner cut off! But, take note, you may be tempted to use the trick of adding activated charcoal to the glaze to make it darker. It’s available in many baking sections in craft stores and online. It makes things dark as night. But, it can also stop medications from working in your body. We don’t recommend using activated charcoal in any recipe. A doughnut has 362 calories, eight grams of carbs and four grams of fiber. Get the recipe.

Ghost Cupcakes

If you’re a fan of all things cute, this is the treat for you. These ghosts could never scare anyone! If you plan on having grandchildren over for a small celebration — or dropping off goodies for family or friends with children — these are perfect. They are fun to share but individually portioned, which is excellent for this year when cakes aren’t on the menu! Each cupcake has 373 calories, eight grams of carbs and three grams of fiber. Dairy-free Pumpkin Whoopie Pies

These tick two boxes! If you are avoiding dairy, these will still let you enjoy whoopie pies without feeling cheated! We love that whoopie pies are somewhere between a cake and a cookie but a different kind of dessert altogether. We’ve had them filled with cream cheese frosting, the more traditional marshmallow fluff, buttercream or a mix of shortening and sugar! This recipe pairs a coconut cream with a delicious pumpkin cookie. You have to chill them for several hours to let the cream and cookie fuse together and get the perfect chew. A whoopie pie has 231 calories, 9.21 grams of carbs and 4.5 grams of fiber. Get the recipe.

We hope these treats help you celebrate National Dessert Day and Halloween! We’ll bring you spooky fun recipes leading up to the big day! It might not be as big as other years, but we’re looking for any reason to celebrate!
