Vinegar May Aid Mood

We love reading all the conversations on our social media posts! We see many of our customers talk to each other about their healthy routines. It is essential for all of us to share what works for us so that we can learn from one another as we take steps toward our goals.

Because of reading those comments, we know that many of you take apple cider vinegar as a supplement (ACV). Way back in 2018, we expressed our concern for people’s teeth when drinking ACV. We agreed that it helps promote insulin sensitivity and could lessen post-meal spikes. But, we urged caution about making large changes to your diet as it can interact with medications.

In 2019, we wrote about the discovery that ACV may help cholesterol. Again, we urged caution. It can harm tooth enamel, and it isn’t right for everyone. But it was another win for ACV.

Now, researchers have found that taking vinegar daily can improve the symptoms of depression. This might be a simple, holistic way to aid people’s mental health.

Scientists from Arizona State Univ. found that people who drank vinegar daily had an 86 percent boost in vitamin B3. Vitamin B3 has anti-inflammatory properties.

The four-week study was small, using only 28 people, split into two groups. One group had two tablespoons of red wine vinegar twice a day. The other took a pill with a small amount of vinegar in it. The people drinking vinegar had a 42 percent drop in depressive symptoms. The people taking a daily pill had an 18 percent reduction.

The researchers aren’t looking to replace medication. They are looking for ways to supplement it. The researchers wrote that “Depressive disorders are the most prevalent mental health conditions in the world. The commonly prescribed antidepressant medications can have serious side effects, and their efficacy varies widely. Thus, simple, effective adjunct therapies are needed.”

The team wrote that “Future studies should be conducted on a larger scale and include populations at high risk for clinical depression.”

You should not change your healthy routine without speaking to your doctor. You should never stop taking medication without a discussion with someone who knows your medical history. Adding vinegar to your daily routine may be an excellent choice for you. It might aid your blood sugar, cholesterol and mood. However, before you change your lifestyle, always discuss it with a health professional. And please remember what we have been saying since 2018: if you add vinegar to your routine, rinse your mouth with water after you take it; it can wreak havoc on tooth enamel.
