It’s been snowing in so many parts of the country. When it’s chilly, we want to be cozy and curl up with warm drinks. The problem is that warm drinks are often filled with sugar. In the past, we have shared a ton of great coffee recipes and low-carb cocoa recipes. But many people we have spoken to have given up caffeine for their New Year’s resolution.
For various health reasons, it seems like going caffeine-free is one of 2024’s biggest trends. Some people may need to do so for medical reasons, others may be seeking better sleep. Whatever your reason is, we want to help you reach your goal. Coffee, black tea and chocolate all contain caffeine, so all of the usual cozy hot drinks are out. That’s okay; there are still plenty of options.
First and foremost, we must mention that herbal and green teas are either caffeine-free or much lower in caffeine than black tea. They are wonderful, calorie-free options! As we are always looking for ways to add flavor to our drinks, they are excellent choices! But if you are looking for something that is a treat as well as caffeine-free and low-carb, we have four delicious recipes!
Sometimes, we share recipes that aren’t really recipes but are more like tips. Blending coconut oil into green tea cuts the bitterness of the tea and adds fatty acids. If you don’t get enough fatty acids in your diet, this can be an excellent drink for you. However, it is important to be mindful of the fat content. You are adding nothing but sweet fat to your drink. It’s creamy, delicious and high in calories. A serving has 121 calories, zero carbs, zero fiber and 13 grams of fat. Get the recipe.
Many of us shy away from trying the trendy thing. Matcha burst onto the scene. It’s a green opaque tea you have to whisk. It seems complicated and doesn’t look appealing at first glance. But it’s actually easy to make. Matcha is very finely ground green tea leaves that you drink all of. It has a calming amino acid and 10 times the amount of the fat-burning compound EGCG than regular green tea. This recipe uses heavy cream and almond milk to make a rich, silky latte. A serving has 141 calories, two grams of carbs, one gram of fiber and 13 grams of fat. Get the recipe.
This is your best bet if you are looking for something like hot chocolate. It uses homemade keto low-carb caramel sauce, almond milk and heavy cream. It also calls for MCT powder. The MCT powder can be left out without impacting the drink much. If you don’t have it, or don’t feel comfortable using it, you don’t need to include it. This is another drink to enjoy in moderation. It’s more of a dessert than an anytime drink. As it’s written, a serving has 283 calories, three grams of carbs, one gram of fiber and 29 grams of fat. Get the recipe.
Butterfly pea is a new flavor, but it’s rapidly becoming one of our favorites. It’s mild, sweet and slightly floral. It’s been described as close to chamomile tea. But everyone on our team agrees that it’s more similar to the earthy flavor of yam. It’s enjoyable, and one person said, “It’s green tea without the bitter bite.” So, if you like the idea of the matcha latte but worry it might be bitter, go for this pretty blue drink instead. It looks like a drink from a fairytale! The recipe calls for honey; the drink is low in carbs, but you can make it even lower using a noncaloric sweetener. A serving has 51 calories, seven grams of carbs, one gram of fiber and two grams of fat. Get the recipe.
These drinks are all very different than the coffee and hot chocolate that we’re used to. But it’s great to try new things and get out of our comfort zones occasionally. We especially like the butterfly pea latte. Trying new things is great. It helps keep your diet varied and will help you miss caffeine less!
