Four Light Italian Desserts

We haven’t shared any dessert recipes in quite a while. Our team loves sweets, so we are listing our favorites today! We’re taking a pass on the high-carb and calorie-heavy biscotti, cannoli and zeppole to instead focus on some lighter recipes we prefer. All of these recipes have fewer than 200 calories and no more than 10 grams of carbs.

Because of blood sugar concerns, many of us skip dessert. It’s not an essential part of any day. But we don’t like to deny ourselves treats now and then. Sticking to too rigorous a diet can end in accidentally overeating when you do allow yourself to eat some sweets. Instead, we believe in moderation and not eating sweet things as a matter of course. Here are a few lighter Italian desserts you can enjoy without derailing your healthy plans.

Zabaglione

This whipped custard is more like a foam than a solid treat. Served warm, it’s perfect for early spring nights when there is still a chill on the air. It couldn’t be easier with four ingredients and four steps. The recipe yields two servings. Each serving has 69 calories and only two grams of carbs. When the numbers are that low, you probably won’t upset your day even if you accidentally eat both servings. Get the recipe.

Lemon Ricotta Pie

A lemon ricotta pie is a pretty traditional Easter item. So, if you celebrate Easter, this might be perfect for your family. It’s a crustless pie and is very similar to a cheesecake. We’re fans of this luscious and smooth dessert. The recipe only has six ingredients (that’s including a dash of salt). It’s easy to prepare and won’t have you buying a lot of things you don’t already have. A slice has 125 calories and three grams of carbs. Get the recipe.

Tiramisu

No list of Italian desserts could possibly be complete without tiramisu. However, finding a good and low carb recipe can be hard. We like this one because it’s not just a lighter version, it’s also pretty fast. The sponge of the cake can be cooked in the microwave! Any guests you have over won’t know how easy it is, and you’ll get a lot of compliments on making a tiramisu from scratch! A slice has 170 calories and five grams of carbs. Get the recipe.

Semifreddo

On the other end of the spectrum from zabaglione, if you’re having unseasonably warm evenings, semifreddo might be just the ticket! This dessert has nuts and chocolate chips, making this frozen mousse flavorful and a nice mix of textures. The recipe also uses almond flour to give the dish more of a body than it would otherwise have. A serving has 194 calories and 10 grams of carbs. Get the recipe.
