Four Low-carb Recipes for National Country Cooking Month

June is National Country Cooking Month! The official month was first observed in 2017, and we are excited to celebrate it. It’s a time for biscuits and gravy, fried chicken and barbecue!

There is a lot of debate about what qualifies as southern food vs. soul food vs. country food. It can be hard to figure out as it is nuanced and can be different depending on who you ask. The one thing everyone agrees on is that country food is delicious, comforting and sticks to your ribs. The problem is it can be high in carbs.

We want everyone to enjoy delicious classic recipes that are good, old-fashioned home cooking! With that in mind, here are four low-carb country recipes to enjoy!

Low-carb Country Fried Steak

Country fried steak is a tasty, tender way to enjoy beef! We love that the crispy coating doesn’t contain nuts. Low-carb recipes that traditionally require flour often use almond flour. But this recipe uses whey protein powder in an excellent way we haven’t seen before! A serving, without gravy, has 255 calories, one gram of carbs and nine grams of fat. Get the recipe.

Keto Sausage Gravy

Sausage gravy is the perfect way to start the day. We have shared recipes for low-carb biscuits before. Or you can have it alongside scrambled eggs! The recipe is so simple you will be able to whip this up on busy mornings! But, you should be aware of the fat content. It’s higher than we would usually share. A serving has 357 calories, two grams of carbs and 32 grams of fat. Get the recipe.

Keto Hush Puppies

Hush puppies are an amazing snack, appetizer or side dish. They are also high in carbs as they are made with corn meal. This recipe uses a mix of almond flour and coconut flour and a bit of keto sweetener to get the slight sweetness of hush puppies. The almond flour helps get the texture of a hush puppy. You can remove the sweetener if you would prefer. These are a real treat. A serving has 94.5 calories, 4.7 grams of carbs, 1.8 grams of fiber and 7.8 grams of fat. Get the recipe.

Keto Instant Pot Country Style Ribs

Country style ribs are a cut of meat rather than a style of cooking. But we feel this recipe deserves to be on the list because no list of country recipes is complete without some barbecue! Country style ribs traditionally require a low and slow cooking method. If you have a smother, that’s wonderful. If you don’t, this recipe uses an instant pot to get tender, juicy ribs cooked in a half hour! These are delectable, fall-apart ribs you eat with a fork that you will make again and again. A serving has 395 calories, eight grams of carbs, one gram of fiber and 23 grams of fat. Get the recipe.

We hope that these recipes fill you with a comforting, warm feeling as you enjoy Country Cooking Month! They are all tasty options!
